movie diary

09/19 the seventh seal (dir. bergman, 1957): one of those movies i've always put off and then upon watching immediately regretted the time i'd wasted, because it's the type of film that's completely art and archaic, true to most everyone's spirit. it encapsulated both the eerie inevitability of death but also the jovialty of an end to make life worth it at all. it changed me a little as it was meant to. i'm interested in seeing the rest of ingmar bergman's films, especially from the life of the marionettes because i snagged the script book for it at a used bookstore some months ago. and wild strawberries, because i read some reviews that said it was a bit of a companion/comparison piece with this one. more about death etc.

09/13 the boy and the heron (dir. miyazaki, 2023): wildly confusing and due for a rewatch but i loved the visuals of that grotesque little bird-man and i think robert pattinson did a fantastic job with his willem impression.
